VIRGINIA BELCHER Obituary

BELCHER Virginia Ginny Miller Belcher, 94, of Jacksonville, died Monday, May 30, 2011, at her home. Born Jun. 19, 1916, in Benton, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late Charles Herbert Miller and Lillian Snyder Miller. She was a graduate of Northwestern University where she completed a degree in journalism and was a member of the Illinois Epsilon chapter of Pi Beta Phi sorority. She was known as a gracious hostess and for her service to the P.E.O. Sisterhood. She was also a member of the Heritage Sunday School Class and the JOY Group at Southside United Methodist Church. Most of all, she valued her family and she will be remembered as a loving daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Jackson Belcher and her sister Joan Miller. Survivors include her children, James Belcher and wife, Tracy, of Beijing, China, John Belcher and wife, Astrid, of Bellingham, WA and Virginia Belcher Lindsey and husband Joe, of Raleigh, NC. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday, June 5, 2011 in George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Home, 4140 University Blvd. S. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, June 6, 2011, at Southside United Methodist Church with the Revs. Bruce Jones and Gene Zimmerman officiating. Burial will follow at the family cemetery in Covington, Georgia at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, June 7, 2011. The family wishes to express its gratitude toward her caretakers Betty Jean Webb, Lou Hines, and Mercedes Miller who were true blessings during her last years. I would just like to say as one of Mrs. Belcher's CAREGIVERS that she was a wonderful woman and I Thank God that He allowed our paths to cross. I will surely miss that beautiful smile she shared with us. She will truly be missed.
