McCALL D.A. “Scott” McCall, Jr. went home to be with the Lord January 20, 2008 at Community Hospice Hadlow Center, Jacksonville, FL. Scott was born in Jackson, MS May 5, 1930 to Dr. D. A. “Scotchie” McCall, Sr. and Margie Parks McCall. He was an ordained Baptist Minister with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from Bob Jones University, Greenville, SC and a Masters of Music Degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, KY. In addition he held a Bachelor of Psychology from Grand Canyon College, Phoenix, AZ., Bachelor of Music Education, Jacksonville University, Jacksonville, FL and a Bachelor of Electronics from National Radio and Electronics Institute, Washington, D.C. He also attended one year of Law School at the University of Florida, Gainesville, FL. Scott spent most of his life in the field he loved best “Music”. He served as Minister of Music for 10 years at First Baptist Church, Fredricksburg, VA. He moved to Jacksonville in 1965 and became Choral Director at Paxon Sr. High School. He served as Minister of Music at several local churches, appeared in many theatre productions at Little Theater & the Fairfax Theater, directed Gulf Life Choral Group and various other Choral Groups in the area and spent the later portion of his career as leader of the Scott McCall Band performing at events in the N.E.FL area. Scott was a teacher, director, actor and accomplished keyboardist and accordionist. For many years he spent weekdays traveling North FL and South GA with his wife Bernice who was Training Director and area Manager of Weight Watchers. On weekends he performed at various music events in the Northeast Florida area. Preceding him in death are stepdaughters, Suzanne McCall and Myrna DeRay. Survivors include his devoted wife and soul mate of 37 years, Bernice; son, Dave McCall, Houston, TX; stepsons, Charles “Chuck” Townsend (Marge) Jacksonville, FL, Kenneth Townsend (Rosemary) Live Oak, FL; stepdaughter, Lynell Carter (Buddy) Crossville, TN, several step grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and “Molly” the Maltese family doggie. Also, mourning his passing are Jacksonville friends Bob Melby, Bill Cooper, Frank Kadel, who was his last accordion student, and Parker Stokes of CA. Other dear friends who knew him as “Scotchie” are Mr. and Mrs. Ron Wehman, Mr. and Mrs. G. M. Haney, Fredricksburg, VA, Dr. and Mrs. Frank Stovall, Houston, TX, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Burghard, Jackson, MS and numerous others whose lives he touched throughout his life. Scott was a devout Christian, a man of great faith and knowledge of the Holy Scriptures, who truly loved the Lord. A Celebration of his life will be held Saturday, February 9, 2008, 1:00 PM at Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 940 Cesery Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32211. Officiating will be Rev. Julius Blazs, organist Wynelle Blazs of Jacksonville, and the eulogy, by his dear friend and ProtŽgŽ, Ron Wehman of Fredricksburg, VA.
