Obituary Condolences

JONES Edna Mae Jones was born near Cincinnati, Ohio on May 27, 1919, and she went home to be with the Lord on November 12, 2012. She and her family moved to St. Petersburg, FL when Edna was in high school and she attended Tampa Municipal Hospital School of Nursing. She worked at a Veterans Administration hospital in Bay Pines, FL during World War II. Edna attended Florida State University, obtaining her BA degree in two years. She then moved to San Angelo, TX, where she lived for seven years and became director of a nursing program at Angelo College. She left Texas to attend the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, and graduated with her masters of nursing in 1957. Edna returned to Jacksonville during the illness of her parents. She taught nursing at the University of Florida, Jacksonville University and Valdosta State in Valdosta, GA. Along with her parents and her brother Ralph, she was a charter member of Mandarin Presbyterian Church when it was established in 1961. Edna served as a Deacon, an Elder and a Trustee at Mandarin Presbyterian where she also taught Sunday school for many years, and served as Superintendent of the Sunday School. Edna was very active in the Presbyterian Women, where she served as President and was honored with a Life Membership in 1995. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver and Mina Jones, and her brother, Ralph Jones. There will be a memorial service in celebration of the life of this very faithful woman on Thursday, November 15 at 11 a.m. at Mandarin Presbyterian Church, 12001 Mandarin Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mandarin Presbyterian Church Building Fund, or to Community Hospice, 4266 Sunbeam Road.
