Jean McKinney Carroll Obituary
CARROLL Jean McKinney Carroll, born August 27, 1925 in Hawkinsville Georgia to Franklin G. and Mary Ella McKinney, passed away peacefully after a short illness January 26, 2014. Jean attended local schools, graduating from Andrew Jackson High School in 1943. She worked at the Times-Union until marrying Dorsey L. Carroll, Jr. in 1948. She proudly graduated from Florida Junior College with an Associate of Arts in 1987. Some of her favorite activities included working with the Northside Boosters as well as the Jackson Jills, being their president for many years. Jean was active in her community including serving as a polling attendant for several years, a member of the Eastern Stars, as well as being a former member of Main Street Methodist Church.
Jean was better known as being a tireless supporter of her husband and children's activities and a kind and generous friend to many. She enjoyed the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains at every opportunity and loved nothing more than to think about the next time she could sit enjoying the view with a friend and a cup of coffee. Her life was enriched by the numerous friendships developed over the years. She will be greatly missed by her many friends and family alike.
She was preceded in death by a brother, C.O. ""Sonny"" McKinney, a sister Ruth B. Tuten, and a grandson Clint Leachman. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Dorsey L. Carroll, Jr., son Dorsey L. Carroll, III (Ann), daughter Marilyn Leachman (Terry), daughter Patricia Carroll (Christine), grandchildren Krista Lee Jones (Steve), Erik L. Leachman ,and Jaren E. Ashe. Great-granddaughter Chelsea L. Bullard, a brother Henry E. ""Pete"" Blackwell (Mary Ann).
The family will greet friends Thursday evening January 30 from 6-8pm at George H. Hewell and Son Funeral Homes, 4747 N. Main St. A memorial service will be held Friday January 31 beginning at noon at the funeral home with the Rev. Gary Tarleton officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
