Michael James Kavanaugh Obituary
KAVANAUGH Michael James Kavanaugh was born in New York on November 15, 1952 and died on February 4, 2014. He was the son of Wilford and Ruthann Kavanaugh. Mike is survived by his mother and two brothers, Tom and Wilford Bill Jr., four nieces and a nephew. Mike came to Jacksonville in 1972 after serving in the US Navy. Since then he has amazed friends and family with his energy and imagination in business. A true entrepreneur, he ventured into many opportunities. Mike's love for and mastery of the deal is legendary especially in the car business where he left a wide path and dared men to follow. His friends and business associates that have just now read this are already laughing...they could make a movie! Mike became interested in the antique business along the way and became an authority on glassware and early American furniture. There isn't a dealer in North Florida that couldn't add to the Legend of Mike Kavanaugh...a fun story but probably not rated G. In the recent past Mike's attention was directed to coins. In a rather amazingly fast but typical Mike fashion he amassed an industry attention catching collection. He sold most of it to buy a home in San Jose, which he so enjoyed with his best friend and companion Cindy Schultz. Perhaps most amazing of all is the fact that Mike fought Multiple Sclerosis and Diabetes most of his adult years. He finally succumbed and leaves all of us with such a big hole in our hearts. He will be so missed! A memorial service will be held at ten o'clock in the morning on Monday, February 17, 2014 at The Oaklawn Chapel. HARDAGE-GIDDENS, THE OAKLAWN CHAPEL, 4801 San Jose Boulevard is serving the family. Please Sign the Guestbook @ Jacksonville.com
