SCHMELZ Robert Bobby David Schmelz, 59, passed away peacefully at his home in Jacksonville, Florida on March 10, 2014, surrounded by his loving family, after a long battle with brain cancer. Bobby was raised in Jacksonville, Florida. He had attended Sacred Heart Catholic School, Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was a member of the Boy Scouts of America #304. As a junior high school student at Jefferson Davis, he received awards from the French Government while competing in the Le Congres de la Culture Francaise en Floride at Jacksonville University. Bobby was a member of Nathan Bedford Forrest High School Graduating Class of 1972. Bobby began his automotive paint career in Jacksonville with Sherwin-Williams in 1973. He then settled in Gainesville, Florida over 30 years ago, where he continued in the Automotive Paint Industry. Bobby became highly respected in this field. He managed the Automotive Paint and Supply Company in Gainesville, Florida, where he enjoyed his co-workers and customers. Bobby loved living in Gainesville, his Florida Gators and Detroit Lions. He was a loving son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, friend and mentor. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert J. and Ethel J. Schmelz, and his nephew, Robert Charles Fickling. He is survived by his brother Michael Schmelz (Anita), his sisters, Teresa Vickers (Greg) and Lisa Johns (Kevin); his nieces and nephews: Michelle Bradford (Clint), Brittainy Malone (Skyler), Diana Schmelz (Arin), Amanda Thoele (Matthew), Christopher Vickers (Caitlin), Joshua Schmelz (Wendy), Hunter Beck, Richard Fickling, Andrew Fickling and Matthew Vickers; his great-nieces and great-nephews: Colby, Mason, Chloe, Hope, Archer, Amber and Charles; and girlfriend Amy Losty and her daughter Olivia. A memorial will be held at Jacksonville Memorial Gardens funeral home, 111 Blanding Blvd, Orange Park, Florida, on Saturday, March 15, 2014. The viewing is scheduled from 12:00 (noon)-1:00PM, with the memorial to follow, beginning at 1:00PM. Please sign the guest book at www.jacksonvillememorygardens.com
