Hazel Rebecca Robinson SHOWALTER Obituary
SHOWALTER Hazel Rebecca Robinson ( Showalter, Leonard/Len), (Morris, Thomas/Tom ), 87, passed away on April 8, 2014 in Panama City, Fl. She was born in Waycross, GA on November 27, 1926. Hazel spent the majority of her life in Panama City, FL; Warner Robins, GA; and Green Cove Springs, FL. Hazel was predeceased by Maisie Crews Massey (mother), Basil Robinson (father), husbands Leonard and Tom, her sister Helen Smith, her brother Gerald Robinson, and her grandson Evan Vickers. Hazel leaves behind her one sister: Becky Madsen of Coral Springs, Fl.; one half-sister, Pat Walters of Jacksonville; and her beloved children: a son, Rick (Charlene) Fowler of Fleming Island, Fl.; two daughters, Susan (Bart) Barthelemy of Panama City, Florida, and Karen Fowler of Augusta, Georgia; 3 grandchildren; Charles (Karri) Fowler, Christy (John) Guffey, and Ashley (Jessi) Fowler; 6 great-grandchildren; Dominic, Melissa, Camron, Andrew, Devin and Blake; and one very special best friend Marion Robinson from Hiram, GA. She will also be missed by nieces and nephews, family members from Lake Butler, step-children and step-grandchildren along with many other family members and friends too numerous to name. Hazel had an exciting career working at Western Union in Panama City and was a civil service employee at both Tyndall Air Force Base and Warner Robbins Air Force Base. She continued her civil service career at NAS Jacksonville until she retired from government service. During her life, Hazel enjoyed square dancing, being a member of 1st Baptist Church in Green Cove Springs, playing cards, listening to music from the 1940s, the Red Hatters, enjoying her beautiful yard overlooking the St. Johns River and making multiple trips to Ft. Lauderdale to visit with her oldest sister Becky and brother-in-law Jimmy Madsen. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and friends. Hazel lived a wonderful life and will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known her. Special Thanks goes to Summers Landing Retirement Club, Community Health and Rehab Facility, and Covenant Hospice all of Panama City, Fl. A Heartfelt thanks goes to Dr. Vickie Harrell and staff of Panama City who took such good care of her. Friends and family are invited to attend Chapel Services at Jacksonville Memory Gardens Funeral Home located on 111 Blanding Blvd. in Orange Park, Florida on Monday, April 14, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be Rick Fowler, Charles Fowler, Ash Fowler, John Guffey, Bart Barthelemy, and Ken Robinson. Services will be provided by Pastor Leonard Showalter Jr. at Jacksonville Memory Gardens. Graveside services will follow immediately at the same location. A reception will follow the service at Park Avenue Bistro, 3535 Highway 17, Suite 8, Fleming Island, Florida. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be given in her memory to Covenant Hospice of Panama City, Florida or a Fleet Reserve Association Chapter of your choice.
