McLloyd H. "Max" Shanks Obituary
SHANKS Please Sign the Guestbook @ Jacksonville.com McLloyd H. Shanks Max , 86, passed away May 8, 2014. Max was born in Birmingham, AL, but spent most of his life in Jacksonville, FL. He was a veteran of WWII, having served in the US Army, Airborne Division. He was a railroad engineer for CSX for 38 years. Max was the founder and first president of the Fred H. Brown chapter of the 82nd Airborne Division. He was a third order Carmelite as well as a member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society. He was one of the founding members of Christ the King Parish. At the time of his death, Max was a member of St. Joseph s Parish. Max was preceded in death by his first wife Gloria and daughter Marie. He is survived by wife, Mary; sons, Michael (Ann), Curtis, Matthew; daughters, Cissy, Melise (Grady); step-children, Ronald Sills (Chrys), Steve Sills (Marcy), Cathy Duncan (Bryan), Beth Sweat (Randy), Lori Ann Clift (Chuck); sister, Joan Skipper (Frank); 34 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held Sunday, May 11 at Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home of Mandarin beginning at 5pm and concluding with the Rosary from 7-8pm. The funeral service will be Monday, May 12 at 10am at St. Joseph s Catholic Church, 11730 Old St. Augustine Rd. Interment will follow at St. Joseph s Catholic Cemetery followed by a luncheon at the Cody Center. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Divine Mercy House, 4118 Loretto Rd.
