Holly Susan Heller Mruz Obituary
Video Memory
MRUZ Holly Susan Heller Mruz, beloved wife of Edward K. Mruz, Jr., died May 9, 2014 in Jacksonville, Florida. Holly was born in Brunswick, Georgia on September 26, 1955 and spent the first nine years of her life on St. Simons Island, Georgia. She went to junior high school in Wilbraham, Massachusetts but returned to Georgia and graduated from Sol C. Johnson High School in Savannah in three years. She went to Armstrong State College in the Early Admission Program and, after one year, transferred to Florida State University, where she majored in French and minored in Dance. While at FSU, she also played clarinet in the Marching Chiefs Band. After graduating in 1976, Holly moved to France, working for a year as an au pair and teaching English for eight years at the French Petroleum Oil Institute. Upon returning to the United States, she studied Computer Science for one year at the University of Delaware before getting her Master's degree in French from Kansas University. Holly came to Jacksonville in 1990 and taught French and Spanish for three years at Stanton College Preparatory School, where she met her husband-to-be Ed. Continuing her education during this time, Holly earned certification as a paralegal and worked for twenty years at Merrill Lynch and Bank of America in their legal departments, eventually becoming a Vice President and Assistant Corporate Secretary. Holly was very interested in fitness and participated in a variety of exercise classes and activities, including cycling and yoga, and was also an Aerobics instructor. However, her main passion was running: at the time of her passing, she had completed over fifty marathons in 47 states. She guided several people into running, and according to the group of friends she most regularly ran with, she was an inspiration to them all. Holly was predeceased by her father, Richard Heller. She is survived by her husband Ed, her mother Joan Heller of St. Simons Island, her sister Debby Robinson (Ron), her brother Scott Heller (Celeste), and by a number of nieces and nephews and grand-nephews, of whom she was very proud. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), 9700 Phillips Highway, Ste. 106, Jacksonville, Florida 32256. A visitation with the family will be held from 4-6 PM on May 15th at the Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home at 729 S. Edgewood Avenue, followed by a short memorial. Arrangements entrusted to Hardage-Giddens Funeral Home Edgewood Chapel. Please Sign the Guestbook @ Jacksonville.com
