Burton W. Burt Thomas Obituary
THOMAS Burton W. Burt Thomas, 82, of Interlachen, FL, passed away Thursday, May 15, 2014 at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center in Palatka following an extended illness. A native of Madison, Florida, he resided in Putnam County for the past 13 years coming from Jacksonville. Burt served in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean War and continued to serve in the reserves retiring as a chief warrant officer 4 after a total of nearly 26 years. Burt was a 1967 graduate of Jacksonville University where received his Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. He later attended the Louisiana State University School of Banking. Burt worked 35 years with the Federal government as a data processing manager at the Federal Reserve Bank - Jacksonville Branch. He was currently a deacon at Woodlawn Baptist Church in Johnson and while residing in Jacksonville was a deacon at Cedar Hills Baptist Church. Burt was a member of MOAA (Military Officers Association of America) and had been active in the Boys Scouts of America where he was the recipient of the Silver Beaver Award and was in the Order of Arrow. In his leisure time, Burt enjoyed fishing, cooking and spending quality time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sarah P. Thomas of Interlachen, a son, Burton W. Thomas, III of Port Orange, a daughter, Pamela Callan and husband Ken of Fleming Island and 3 grandchildren, Burton W. Thomas, IV, Kaitlyn Thomas and Shana Thomas. Memorial services celebrating Burt's life will be at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at Woodlawn Baptist Church in Johnson, FL with Dr. L.D. Osteen officiating. Flowers are gratefully accepted or memorial donations may be made to Woodlawn Baptist Church, 818 CR 20-A, Hawthorne, FL 32640 or to Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center, 6400 St. Johns Ave., Palatka, FL 32177.
