Joann Hardwick BLONG Obituary
BLONG Joann Hardwick Blong, 77, of Jacksonville, went home to be with the Lord at her residence on May 27, 2014. Joann was born on January 8, 1937 to Nadine and Clifford Hardwick in Moultrie, Georgia. As a young child she moved to Jacksonville, Florida where she has been a resident and contributing member of the community for over 70 years. Joann was first and foremost, a loving, earnest, and faithful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who cherished spending time with her abundant family. Joann was an incessant reader who always relished a good book. She was well known as the source of engaging conversation, during which she would undoubtedly unfurl her infectiously, hearty laugh. A Master Gardener, Joann was passionate about cultivating the earth s beauty. She was also generous with her time, sharing her love and knowledge of horticulture, through her volunteerism at the University of Florida - Duval County Extension Office. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years Stewart O. Blong; daughter, Judith B. Peters; and son, William Stewart Blong. She is survived by her sons, Charles Blong and Stewart Blong; and her daughters: Patty Willis, Betty Arthur, Carol Smith and Renee Trevorah. She will also be deeply missed by her 10 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, as well as, her 2 brothers and 8 sisters and many loving friends. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 29, 2014 (TODAY) from 5PM- 7PM in the chapel at Jacksonville Memory Gardens Funeral Home, 111 Blanding Blvd. Orange Park, FL. Funeral services will be held graveside 11:00 AM Friday, May 30, 2014, at Jacksonville Memory Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of funeral flowers, the family asks that you honor Joann s memory with a contribution to The 4-H Foundation, Junior Master Gardener Program at 1010 N McDuff Avenue, Jacksonville, FL 32254, Attention Terry DeValle.
