CRISP Dr. Thomas Dewey Crisp, 80, a resident of Jacksonville went home to be with the Lord, his wife of 55 years, Lydia Smith Crisp and his grandson, Hunter Thigpen on July 10, 2014. Dr. Crisp was born on September 5, 1933 in Bryson City, NC. He proudly served his country in the US Navy for 25 years. He retired from the service with multiple honors in 1984 as a Senior Chief. Dr. Crisp was a long time valued member and staff member of First Baptist Church of Jacksonville where he served in the ministry as a Sunday School teacher, in the bus ministry as a Captain, and in the prison ministry. He founded the Hospital Pastor Ministry after answering the call to full-time ministry under the direction of Dr. Homer Lindsay Jr. and Dr. Jerry Vines. He also served as an interim pastor at churches across the US and volunteered as a Chaplain in the Civil Air Patrol. Dr. Crisp also loved to officiate weddings, including his daughter Valerie's and his granddaughter Victoria's, and was honored to do many funerals for family, friends and more. He would also minister to individuals by volunteering to perform funerals at Fraser Funeral Home for families who had no church home. Dr. Crisp has left behind many friends who have been blessed by his mentorship in the Word, many of them now serving as preachers. What he will be most remembered for is his genuine love of the Word and God's people. Dr. Crisp is survived by his daughters, Cheryl Crisp, Beth Willoughby (Frank) and Valerie Thigpen (Robin), Brothers; Clarence Edwin Crisp (Angela), Ralph Crisp (Pearl) and Neal Crisp, a sister, Betty Jo Holland (Brunell) and his grandchildren, Josh and Jacob Willoughby, Victoria Amrhein (Chaz) and Caroline Thigpen. Funeral services will be held, Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at 11:00am in First Baptist Church of Jacksonville with Dr. Alan McKeithan, Dr. Richard Marks and Rev.
