Frank LeCount Sturgis Sr. Obituary
STURGIS A FUNERAL SERVICE for Mr. Frank LeCount Sturgis, Sr., age 91, will be held 11 AM, SATURDAY, July 26, 2014 at Resurrection Episcopal Church, with Rev. Carrie English, Rector, officiating. Mr. Sturgis passed away peacefully on July 18, 2014. A native of Jacksonville, FL, he received his early education from the schools of Duval County, graduating from Stanton High School - Class of 1938. A WWII Veteran, he served in the U.S. Navy with many years of honorable service. Mr. Sturgis was employed with the U.S. Postal Service as a Mail Carrier until retiring with 55 years of dedicated service. He was a member of Second Missionary Baptist Church. Other affiliations include a member of V.F.W. Post # 197 and the N.A.L.C. He was predeceased by his wife, Mrs. Rose M. Sturgis; daughter, Mrs. Frances Williams; grandson, Joseph Sturgis, Jr. and granddaughter, Ms. Shannon Williams. Survivors include his children, Mrs. Cecelia Benton (Wilbur), Frank L. Sturgis, Jr., Joseph L. Sturgis (Velinda), Ms. Vannette A. Sturgis and Jeffery A. English (Carrie); 16 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; a number of other relatives and friends. Mr. Sturgis will rest in the Master's Touch Ministry, 4510 Soutel Drive for visitation FRIDAY from 5 PM until 8 PM and at the church Saturday from 9 AM until the hour of service. Interment will be in Edgewood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Frank Sturgis, Sr. to Haven Hospice.
