Tyler A. Zody Obituary
ZODY Sgt. Tyler A. Zody, age 20, died as a result of an accident involving one vehicle that also injured three other soldiers on July 24, 2014. Tyler was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team Rakkasans at Fort Campbell as a Senior Sniper. Tyler was born Aug. 21, 1993 in Fleming Island, FL and graduated from Fleming Island High School in 2011. After graduation he enlisted in the US Army in 2011. Tyler completed basic training at Fort Benning, GA, as an infantryman, and after graduating from training, he was assigned as a grenadier in Company A, 1st Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment in December of the same year. Tyler completed one combat deployment with the Rakkasans, His military education includes Basic Airborne Course, the Air Assault Course and the Warrior Leader Course. He also completed the Special Operations Target Interdiction Sniper Course as well as the U.S. Army Sniper Course. His awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, NATO Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge and Expert Marksmanship Badge. Tyler is survived by his Mother, Vicki Zody, his father and step mother, Michael Zody and Jolene Johnson, his siblings, Mandy Zody Brewer (Chris), Miranda Willoughby, Brittany Zody Fettig (LJ), Travis Zody (Jessenia), Chloe Johnson, Tanner and Makayla Zody. He is also survived by his maternal grandparents and many aunts, uncles and cousins. His hobbies were anything outdoors which included going to the beach, four-wheeling, fishing and hunting. Funeral services will be held, Friday, August 1, 2014 at 12:00pm in Westside Baptist Church with Dr. John Montgomery officiating followed by interment in Jacksonville National Cemetery with US Army Honors. The family will receive friends at FRASER FUNERAL HOME, 8168 Normandy Blvd., Jacksonville, FL (781-4314) from 5:00- 8:00pm Thursday.
