Roy A. (Bill) Smith Obituary
SMITH Roy (Bill) A. Smith, 81, Husband, father, Papa, friend, mentor and Chief Petty Officer U.S. Navy Retired accepted his final orders 5, August 2014. Upon inspection he was found fit for duty at his final Heavenly assignment. A Godly man of character, moral values and leadership, a teacher and friend to all. Those that are blessed and honored to be a part of his Legacy are his loving wife Shirley Smith, proud sons Billy, Gary and Craig and daughter in law Janice Smith. Grandchildren are Joshua, Ashley, Morgan, Andrea, Mandi and Macy Smith and Great Grandchild Grayson Smith along with the men and women with whom he proudly served in the U.S. Navy. Without reservation or complaint he protected, taught, supported, corrected and loved us all. He loved God, his church (River Road Baptist) and the Sunday school class which he taught for many years, his country, the Navy and the Crimson Tide! He served each aspect of his life with pride and distinction. Bill was a man among men, a standard and example by which to live. A humble man that would not consider, himself extraordinary but all that knew him would. He was Godly, devoted, caring, loyal, selfless, honorable, consistent, admired and trustworthy. Our love and respect for and of Bill Smith, is eternal as is the life he will spend with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The family will receive friends on Thursday August 7, 2014 from 6-8 PM at River Road Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held Friday August 8, at 10:00 AM also at the Church. Burial will follow in Jacksonville National Cemetery at 1:00 pm. Condolences may be expressed by signing the guest book at www.nassaufh.com.
