Sarah Kirkland Wood Obituary
WOOD Sarah Kirkland Wood, 102, died August 11, 2014, at Jacksonville, Florida. She was born on February 1, 1912, in Thomasville, Georgia, the second daughter of Essie Campbell Kirkland and Albert Wadley Kirkland. She was preceded in death by her two brothers and her three sisters. She grew up in Fitzgerald and Decatur, Georgia; graduated from Decatur High School; and attended Queens College in Charlotte, North Carolina where she was a member of Alpha Delta PI Sorority. She married William Jackson Deas and resided for many years in Atlanta, Georgia where she was active in The Peachtree Road Presbyterian Church, The Junior League, Daughters Of The American Revolution, Daughters of The Confederacy; and various social and garden clubs. She moved in 1957 to Jacksonville, Florida where her first husband died in 1962. She was particularly active in The South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church and the Hyacinth Garden Club and was a member of The Florida Yacht Club and the San Jose Country Club. She married her second husband, George D. Wood in 1970, who died in 1976. She is survived by her two sons, William Jackson Deas, III of Jacksonville, and Rutherford Campbell Deas, and his wife, Donna Kay Deas, of Ponte Vedra Beach, as well as her step-granddaughters, Jennifer P. Parker of Norfolk, Virginia; and Tiffany K. Haugen of Atlanta, Georgia; and one granddaughter, Alexandra Leigh Deas of Miami Beach. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, August 16, 2014, 11am at South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church. Arrangements are under the care of Hardage Giddens Funeral Home 729 S.
