Edward Matthew Duran Obituary
DURAN Edward Matthew Duran, 89, passed away August 12, 2014 in Jacksonville, FL. He was born in New Salem, PA on September 21, 1924 to the late John and Helen (Oleszkiewicz) Duran. A World War II Navy veteran, Ed was a kind man who was a devout Catholic for all his life. He was an active member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL where he was involved in various ministries including the St. Vincent de Paul Society and Christ Renews His Parish (CRHP). For 39 years, he worked as a manufacturing engineer and manager in nuclear power divisions at Westinghouse Electric in Pittsburgh and Jacksonville. Ed loved to golf, boat, and play Bridge. Ed was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend who will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Ed is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Anna Marie Amy (Defino) Duran; sons John (Kathy) Duran of Export, PA, Paul (Debbi) Duran of Ponte Vedra, FL, Ed (Laura) Duran, Jr. of Cincinnati, OH; daughter Roseann Duran of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL; grandchildren Gregory, Andy, LeAna, Matthew, Kimberly, Patrick, Joseph, and Elena; and great-grandchildren Canaan, Bella, Emma Grace, Kylee, Isabelle, Madelyn, and Berkeley. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m., Sunday, August 17th in the Chapel of Quinn-Shalz Family Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Monday, August 18th in Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, with Rev. Frank Iacona as Celebrant. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Society, 526 1st Avenue North, Jacksonville Beach, FL 32250 or Community Hospice of NE Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Rd., Jacksonville, FL 32257.
