JONES Grettza Shuler Jones, 82, passed away at home on August 13, 2014 after battling cancer. She is survived by her husband of 62 years Jim, her son Rick and his wife Suzy of Jacksonville, her daughter Kathy Jones Clodfelter and her husband Scott of Tallahassee, and five grandchildren (Ashley Jones Heller, Jonathan Clodfelter, Rachel Jones, Katie Clodfelter Mynard and Emily Jones). Born in Bristol, Florida on September 8, 1931 to Reuben Olin Shuler and Flossie Sykes Shuler, Grettza was the fourth of six children. She was raised on a cattle ranch in Liberty County, Florida and graduated from Liberty County High School in 1949. Grettza moved to Jacksonville in 1949 to attend Massey Business College where she met and married James Porter Jones in 1952. Grettza was proud to be a homemaker for her husband and children. In 1972 she went back to college and obtained her AA degree from Florida Junior College summa cum laude. After her children graduated from high school, she worked as the bookkeeper for her husband s business Ripley Block Company. She was a charter member of San Jose Church of Christ where she faithfully served for 55 years. Grettza s true passion was her family and church. Grettza taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, worked in the nursery, served in benevolence and loved participating in ladies Bible class. Grettza will always be Mimi to her grandchildren. She delighted in spending time with them and she seldom missed any of the activities of her precious grandchildren. Grettza loved to read, exercise and travel. She and Jim traveled extensively after Jim sold his business and retired in 1991. Grettza and Jim also took each grandchild on a special trip. The family will receive friends from four o clock until six o clock in the evening on Sunday at The Oaklawn Chapel. A funeral service celebrating Grettza s life will be held at eleven o clock in the morning on Monday, August 18, 2014 at the San Jose Church of Christ, 6233 San Jose Blvd. If desired, in lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made in Grettza s name to the San Jose Church of Christ Missions Fund.
