Irene Koren Adams Obituary
Video Memory
ADAMS Please Sign the Guestbook @ Irene Koren Adams was born in Chicago, Illinois on June 20, 1923 and died on August 25, 2014. She was the oldest of 6 children. Her parents were both immigrants from Poland. She can remember the lovely ice cream shop her mother had and the wonderful trips to the museums, opera, and symphony with her father. Then the depression hit and she witnessed her furniture being moved onto the street. She was eleven years old. Soon, the family moved to Wisconsin to live with her grandmother on the farm. Like so many of that generation, she grew up knowing how to take care of herself and take on great responsibilities. She was like a second mother to her younger siblings, but still excelled in school. After graduation, she earned a scholarship to Julliard for voice, but never finished. She and her sister found the glamour of being a stewardess for National airlines adventuresome. These were some of the happiest times of her life. Her route was Miami, New York and Havana. She met her husband after the war in Miami. He was a Navy pilot at that time. They married in Annapolis, MD and raised two children. She loved her Navy life living in so many interesting places. She has traveled all over the world and was married for sixty two years until her husband passed away in 2008. Her grandchildren remember all of her many stories, and years of hugs and kisses. Irene was amazingly creative! She sewed beautifully, painted, did ceramics, bead work, and more. She was a fabulous duplicate bridge player and always made friends wherever she went because she could always find a bridge group. Most of all she is loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She is predeceased by her husband, Dr. Corliss Wyatt Adams and son, James Corcran Adams. She is survived by her daughter Lark Shields, son in law Ron Cahen, and two grandchildren Ashley and Oliver Shields and his wife Molly Shields. A memorial service will be held at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home Ormond Beach, FL on Saturday August 30th at 1PM. Memorial donations may be made to Halifax Health Hospice or Crohn s and Colitis Foundation of America. Condolences may be shared with the family at
