Obituary Condolences

DAVIS William J. Davis, 85 years young, went to be with the Lord on Oct. 2, 2008 at the McGraw Hospice Center, Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville, Florida. He was born in Haddonfield, NJ on Aug. 18, 1923 to Dr. Albert B. Davis and Lea Lloyd Davis. Lt. William Davis was a pilot in the U.S. Navy earning his flight wings at the age of 21. He served his country honorable, flying missions in WWII and Korea, providing air support for ground and sea forces in the Pacific Theatre, including Iwo Jima. After completing his military service, Bill began a career in sales, moving his family to Jacksonville, FL in 1960. He was a devoted husband and provider and very active throughout his life in the Episcopal Diocese of Florida including St. Andrew's Church (Arlington), Christ Church (Ponte Vedra), and St. Mary's (Jacksonville). He enjoyed outdoors activities, Cultural events, and travel. He traveled extensively throughout the U.S., including Alaska and Hawaii. He frequently organized and attended squadron reunions to maintain friendships with his fellow veterans. Bill is preceded in death by Nonie, his wife of 37 yrs. He is survived by 4 children; Carol Greene (Keith), Jo Ann Munsell (Ben), Richard Davis (Marcia), and Bill Davis Jr. (Melissa); 7 grandchildren, Sean Murphy, Patrick Murphy, Danny Murphy, Anna Medlin, Kristie Munsell, Whitney Davis, and Palmer Davis; and his daughter-in-Christ, Sue Charmichael. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, 400 San Juan Dr., Ponte Vedra Beach, FL.
