Kenneth L'Engle Avent

AVENT Kenneth L'Engle Avent, 56, of Charlotte, NC died peacefully May 6, 2009 following a brief illness. Born in McAlester, OK. He was the son of Mary L'Engle Avent and the late Arthur William Avent of Jacksonville, FL. Ken was a graduate of both the Bolles School in Jacksonville, FL and High Point University in High Point, NC. He was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. After graduation he was employed in the furniture and moving industry in NC. More recently, he was a caring advocate for the homeless and those in need of temporary housing. He was truly a large man with even a bigger heart. He was also the Director of Piney Point LLC, a Florida real estate firm. Ken was also survived by his brothers Arthur W. Avent, Jr. (Pam) of Fernandina Beach, FL, Edward C. Avent (Dawn) of Orange Park, FL, and Camilus L. Avent (Judy) of Newnan, GA. He loved his nieces and nephews, Andrew W. Avent, Margaret Mary L. Avent, Caroline H. Avent , Camilus L. Avent, Jr., John C. Avent and Holden W. Hollingsworth. He was preceded in death by his nephew, Arthur W. Avent, III. A memorial service will be held at St. Marks Episcopal Church, Jacksonville at 11:00am on Saturday May 9, 2009. A reception will follow at the church. Ken's greatest joy was visiting Cedar Key, FL and he requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Cedar Key Volunteer Fire Department for 4th of July fireworks at PO Box 339 Cedar Key, FL 32625.
