WILLIAMS Mr. Clyde Williams, age 89, of Yulee, Florida passed away peacefully on Saturday evening, November 21, 2009 at Baptist Medical Center - Jacksonville. Born in Camden County, Georgia on October 20, 1920 he was the son of the late Lewis Franklin Williams and Ellen O'Quinn Williams. Mr. Williams was employed as a Shipwright with Brunswick Marine Construction Corporation, Brunswick, Georgia in 1942. He relocated to Yulee in 1945. He worked in Construction for several years and was employed at Container Corporation of America as a Carpenter from 1947 until his retirement in 1969. Mr. Williams was a member of Yulee Baptist Church. He served as Building Fund Treasurer for several years. He was a Deacon for forty five years before being elevated to Deacon Emeritus on February 15, 1998. He was honored on October 5, 1980 by the church for serving as Chairman of Construction of the present Church Sanctuary. He was the proud recipient of the 1991 Treasured Senior Citizen Award by his friends and neighbors of Yulee. In addition to his parents, Mr. Williams is preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Vernice Moore Williams, his five brothers and one sister. He leaves behind, his son and daughter-in-law, C. Gary and Wendy Williams, of Tallahassee, his daughters and sons-in-law, Betty and Steve Benton, of Yulee and Sandra and Ben DeJesus, of Naples; grandchildren, Cynthia Core, Emily Williams, Blair Williams, Megan Williams, Melanie Williams, Scott D. Hodges, Wendy H. Olin, Lee Chestnut, Todd Chestnut, Kevin Chestnut; seven great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 pm on Monday, November 23, 2009 in the Burgess Chapel of Oxley - Heard Funeral Home in Fernandina Beach. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 from Yulee Baptist Church with Reverend Ray McKendree and Reverend Joe Otwell, officiating. Active pallbearers will be: Blair Williams, Scott D. Hodges, Lee Chestnut, Adam Fisher, Bernard Neret and Tim Williams. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of Yulee Baptist Church. Mr. Williams will be laid to rest beside his wife in the family section of Hughes Cemetery, Yulee, Florida.
