Otis "Squash" Rhoden Obituary
RHODEN Otis 'Squash' Rhoden passed away on Sunday, April 11, 2010, at his home in Glen St. Mary, Florida. He was born February 28, 1922, in Cuyler, Florida to Nettie Thomas Rhoden and Riley Rhoden. Otis Rhoden was predeceased in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Fairley Harvey Rhoden. He was also predeceased by his parents and sisters: Susie Rhoden, Ada Dykes and Vadie Crews and brothers: Dorsey Lee Rhoden, Dolice Rhoden and J.L. Dowling. Otis Rhoden is survived by his son: Marcus Wayne Rhoden, and daughter- in-law, Gale Raulerson Rhoden. His two grandchildren are Marc Rhoden and Suzanne Rhoden and his great-granddaughter is Jentri Nicole Rhoden. Otis is survived by his sister, Violet Rhoden and brother, Joe Rhoden. He is also blessed with many nieces, nephews and dear friends. His 'Helping Hands' Caregivers during his final years were Tanna Blanchard, Margie Christmas, Eilene Hammock, Elizabeth McKenny and Christine Feather and an additional caregiver was Pauline Crawford. Otis Rhoden owned and operated several Gulf Service Stations in Macclenny, Florida. He then worked and retired as Laundry Manager at NorthEast Florida State Hospital. As a young man, Otis Rhoden, played baseball for the Macclenny Blue Sox and was known for his speed and stealing bases. His favorite hobbies were enjoying times with his family and fishing with his wife at Salt Springs (the Scrub) on the Ocklawaha River. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at 2:00 pm at V. Todd Ferreira Funeral Services Chapel with Pastor John A. Raulerson officiating. Pallbearers will be: Joey Dobson, Scotty Rhoden, Gerald Ray Rhoden, Phil Rhoden, Riley Rhoden and Duncan Harvey. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Tommy Bennett, Junior Dugger, Sonny Register, Gerald Dopson, Gary Dopson, Johnny Dykes, L.W. Dykes, Tommy Rhoden, Jerry Rhoden, Cecil Rhoden and Jimmy Griffis. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Macclenny, FL. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 13, 2010 from 6:00- 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
