Marion E. Byrd Obituary
BYRD Marion E. Byrd, 74, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 25, 2010. He was born in Bunnlevel, NC, son of Romie and Lorena Byrd. A 1954 graduate from Lillington High School, NC, Marion went on to graduate from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1958 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. After his graduation, he served in the U.S. Army until 1961. Upon his discharge, Marion began working for Government Employees Insurance Co., (GEICO), in Chevy Chase, MD, as an underwriter trainee. He spent time in the regional office in Macon, GA as Assistant Vice-President; later as Vice-President. He retired from the Chevy Chase home office in 1996 as Senior Vice-President of Marketing. Marion achieved the Property, Casualty Underwriter designation in 1973. He moved to Ponte Vedra Beach, FL in 1996 and in recent years resided in Jacksonville Beach. He was a member of Palm's Presbyterian Church. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Edgus Byrd. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Donna; a brother, Bobby Byrd (Daphne) of Fayetteville, NC; nephews, Mark Byrd (Jan) and Scott Byrd of Raleigh, NC; a sister, Laura Rambeaut (Fred) of Dunn, NC; a niece, Robin Hall (Mike) and grandnephew, Brandon, of Selma, NC; niece Linda Harper (Dennis), and nephew, Roger Byrd, all of Kinston, NC, and many close friends. A memorial service will be held at Palm's Presbyterian Chapel at 3410 S. Third Street, Jacksonville Beach, FL on Friday, July 30, 2010, at 11:00 A.M. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Road, Jacksonville, FL 32256.
