Dr. Rev. Richard W. Jackson Jr. Obituary
JACKSON Rev. Dr. Richard W. Jackson, Jr. (98) was the eldest son of the late Deacon and Sister Richard W. Jackson, Sr. of Albany, GA. He was born March 19, 1912 in Albany, Georgia. His family later moved to Jacksonville, FL, where he received his formal education in the schools of Duval County. He graduated from Stanton High School, Class of 1933. He furthered his education at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, NC where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in June 1937. He earned his post graduate degrees from Union Seminary in Richmond, VA and Moody's Bible Institute in Chicago, IL. Rev. Jackson married the former Mary Alice Sykes of Lake City, FL on May 26, 1949. To this union four children were born. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at the age of 12. On Sun., Aug. 15 at 8:50am, the Master called Rev. Dr. Richard W. Jackson's name, and he was able to answer the call without any hesitation. Although he will be sorely missed, we have that blessed assurance that we shall meet again at the "rapture", when the Lord returns. Therefore, we rejoice today, in that his belief in the promise of God in Psalms 73:24 is now fulfilled, "Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel and afterwards receive me to glory." Rev. Jackson was the pastor of the St. Nicholas Baptist Church for 17 years and the former pastor of the Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church for 33 years. He has been a pillar in the community and served as an executive member of the East Florida Bethany Baptist Association, the Jacksonville Ministerial Alliance, the National Baptist Convention of America, the NAACP of Jacksonville, FL, the Baptist Ministers Conference, Fellow Mason of the South Jacksonville Lodge #106, and the Director of the Out Reach Ministry of South Jacksonville, FL. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Richard, Sr. and Anna Hughes Jackson, daughter, Richardean J. Jackson, sisters, Anna Lamb, Maggie Sloan, and brother, Aaron C. Jackson. His memories will be cherished by his lovely wife of 61 years, Mary Alice Jackson; daughter, Pastor Barbara Jackson of Milwaukee, son, Ricardo William Jackson, III (Marian) of Rockledge, FL, daughter, Audrey Jackson-Brown (Robert, Sr.) of Jacksonville, FL, and son, Larry Jackson (Vanessa) of Miami, FL; 13 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Emily Nicholson, Gloria Bruce; brothers-in-law, Herman Sykes (Ella), Frederick Sykes (Myrtice); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many caring friends. Funeral services will be held 11am, Sat., Aug. 21 at the Second Missionary Baptist Church, 954 Kings Rd., Rev. Odell Smith, Pastor. Rev. Jackson can be viewed (today) Friday from 5-6:30pm at St. Nicholas Baptist Church, 2606 San Diego Rd. where a Celebration of Life service will be held from 6:30 to 7:30pm. He can also be viewed from 9:30am, Sat. until the hour of service at the Second Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Professional services provided by Sarah L.
