Obituary Condolences

COBB DR. ELIZABETH M. COBB had an impeccable love of life, family, friends, cooking, crafts and most of all God. Her faith in her Savior was evident in her many works throughout her lifetime. She was a native of Palatka, Florida, born August 21, 1932 to the late Willie H. McCoy Sr. and Irene S. McCoy. She was preceded in death by her sisters Goldie McCoy, Barbara J. Greene, Mildred McCoy and brother Willie H. McCoy Jr. She was educated in the public schools of Putnam and Duval Counties culminating in graduation from Stanton High School, Class of 1950. Her studies at FAMC and Edward Waters College earned her a Bachelor degree in 1965; she later achieved a Masters from Florida A&M and a Doctorate from NOVA University. After 25 years of service at Florida Community College (Jacksonville), having served as both Dean of General Studies and Dean of Students (Downtown and Kent Campuses), she retired in 1996. Her strong leadership skills afforded her the opportunity to serve as a member of Leadership Jacksonville, the Jacksonville Womens Network, the Mayors Council for the Status of Women and the Mayors Council for Aging. As a dedicated member of First Baptist Church of Oakland, she served on the Deaconess Board, was Director of Christian Education, and Event Coordinator. She was a devoted member of the Gamma Rho Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Raymond D. Cobb, dedicated son Vincent (Cheryle), only grandchild, Tabitha, whom she affectionately called (Gerly), siblings Shirley Harrison, Marva McKinnon and Freddie Lee McCoy; mother-in-law Adeline Cobb; great-aunts, Eleanor Gay and Emily Scriven; aunt, Florence Jones; sisters-in-law, Doris Cobb and Keithenia Crumbie (William); cousin, Isaiah Johnson (Dorothy); nieces and nephews, Gregory McKinnon, Nicole L. McCoy, Darryl Shephard, Renee McCoy, Reshandia McIntyre, Freddie L. McIntyre, Byron Greene, Latasha Greene-Cobb (Curtis), Talmadge Billingslea, Derrick Cummings, Dormel Strickland, Jirene McCoy; godchildren, Tamara Reed, Nicole Thomas, Nicholas McCorkle, other relatives and a host of friends. The family will accept guests at the NORTHSIDE CHAPEL of MARION GRAHAM MORTUARIES, 1504 Gandy Street this Wednesday from 5 until 7 P.M. Sorority Services will begin at 7 P.M. A Praise and Thanksgiving Service for her life will be held at her church, First Baptist Church of Oakland, 1025 Jessie Street on Thursday, August 18, 2011 at 11:00 A.M.
