MIDDLEBROOKS Mrs. Frances Inez Rhea Middlebrooks, passed away August 31, 2011. A Jacksonville native, Mrs. Middlebrooks was born to the late William and Mrs. Gertrude Rhea. She received her early education from the Duval County Public School System, graduating from Stanton High School. She was united in holy matrimony to Mr. C. R. Middlebrooks. Mrs. Middlebrooks was nurtured in a Christian home by her grandmother after the passing of her mother. She gave her life to Christ at an early age, and became a faithful and devoted member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church, where she served on many boards and auxiliaries. Affiliations include member of the Sarah Allen Sunday School Class, the Progressive Women's Club, Leader of Class #8 and President of Usher Board #2. Her civic involvement included leadership in The Gladiola Ladies Club, Order of the Eastern Star, The Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters Ladies Auxiliary, The Dragonettes, The Azalea Garden Circle and AARP #5149. Mrs. Middlebrooks was a dedicated employee of Levy's Department Store for many years. She was predeceased by her loving husband, C. R. Middlebrooks and only brother, Henry L. Dixon. Survivors include daughters, Mrs. Deloris Middlebrooks Mitchell (Rev. Robert L. Mitchell, PhD) and Mrs. Barbara Middlebrooks Shuman; granddaughters Mrs. Gwendolyn Mitchell Lane (Rev. Earnest J. Lane) and Mrs. Angela Shuman Butler (The Late Mr. Michael Butler); great-grandsons, Michael D. Butler, II (Rachel) and Marques D. Butler; niece, Ms. Henrietta L. Dixon; and a number of other relatives and friends. FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11AM, Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at St. Paul A.M.E. Church, Rev. Marvin C. Zanders, II, Pastor, officiating. Mrs. Middlebrooks will rest in the church for visitation Tuesday from 9AM until the hour of service. Interment will be in Memorial Cemetery.
