We grew up watching Eric grow up on 5th Street. He was a curious soul; always asking much more than he was telling. His father and two uncles had become engineers at UF and Eric wanted to know all about science and engineering. Be it fluids, mechanics, math, heat, waves, rainbows, or whatever. And he attentively listened and absorbed.
We will miss him forever. May he rest in peace.

Dear Aunt Neese,
I just talked to Aunt Joan yesterday and learned of Eric's passing. This is just too sad! I always have such fond memories of you, Uncle Don and your beautiful blonde children. I will be praying for you and the family. So sorry about Carter also, loosing two children has to be hard. I love you!!! Trudi

As our families grew up together in Atlantic Beach, I remember “little Eric Goodling” - A sweet boy, busy under the artistic eye of the funnest mother in the world, Neese. Just a couple of years ago, I got to know Eric as an adult. He had grown into a kind and thoughtful man with big ideas and great enthusiasm and he always greeted me with a comforting hug, and a sweet smile. The Goodling Family is legendary in our community for their kindness, humor, artfulness, and lovingness. Eric's life is a part of that enduring legacy and he will be greatly missed. My thoughts are with you all.

Neese,
My heart goes out to you. I was out of town at the time of Eric's service but my son, Adam Vogel, attended the service at the life guard station and said it was very moving. I know that Adam loved Eric and we will all feel his loss.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.

During frequent visits to Atlantic Beach back when, nephew Eric along with his siblings made the time here all about family. If we didn't boat up the ICW for fun in the dunes, crabbing, or hunting for clams, the eight children along with the DLs and JGs became a group of food gatherers. Always time to pull the big Seine net from fifth street to tenth street and hauling in whiting, flounder, crabs, and empty beer cans, a great crowd would gather as we dragged the net to the beach in anticipation of what would become our evening meal. Eric being amongst the smallest would take the ocean side pole out deep along with William and an other wee ones and do his best to help pull against the current. And collect the catch to be hauled away for cleaning and eating late in the afternoon. Always he helped with whatever needed doing.
He was joyous and happy, inquisitive and studious, wore a great big grin and wide eyes.
Those were the days!!
There is an empty hole in our hearts now.

Our best memories of time spent in AB were mostly with all of the 5th street Goodling family pulling the net through the surf and eating like Kings into the am.
We will mourn the loss of Eric and celebrate the good times past, present and future.

Eric was one of the nicest people you could ever meet, I'm honored to have known him and called him brother. Eric became one of us so many years ago, what is now called 'old school'... you knew, that no matter what it was, if you needed his help, he'd be right next to you no matter how thick it was going to be. So many memories, such good times shared, you'll never be forgotten.
While We, all of his 'other' Brothers will miss him along with his family, the people who didn't know him are really the ones to have sympathy for.

...and, as Eric would surely extend to anyone of us, if there is anything i can do for his first family, all you need do is let me know!

Our family will miss Eric's visits to our home. Eric was always smiling, whether there for a "cook off" or to lend a helping hand.

Dearest Neese and family,
Although not in A.B., we are with you in spirt...our love, tears, and thoughts are with all of you. How fondly we remember Eric, always so polite to us...a real southern gentleman raised by wonderful parents. I remember, too, what a good uncle he was and the many plays and birthdays he celebrated with the boys. Here is one that I took during intermission when he accompanied us to a High School play in which both boys participated. I know it meant so much to the boys and to Heather and Beaver to have Uncle Eric there. We will always treasure those good memories.
With love and condolences from your extended family,
Rob & Joy

I have such fond memories of Eric at the beaches when we were all kids and soooo glad I got to visit him in Oregon. I will cherish that time and hold those memories very dear forever. I was awed by his sense & sensibility, the depth of his feelings, his respectfulness of others and perseverance. The news of his death is crushing - I'm adding photos of him & some of the good times so that we can remember & laugh. Much love & tears to all who knew & loved him, too. Kathryn Robbins (Kat Cuz...)
