JONES Apostle Dr. Robert L. Jones Hurricane Jones, Senior Pastor of We're for Jesus House of Prayer and Pastor of We're for Jesus Westside, passed away peacefully at Memorial Hospital on Friday, May 18, 2012. Apostle Dr. Robert Lee Jones, the son of Henry and Mary Jones, was born in Huntsboro, Alabama. Apostle Jones was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Henry Jones, Jr., Rose Caldwell, Sally Harris, and Leola Tinsley. After leaving Alabama and serving in the United States Army, Dr. Jones furthered his education at Florida Junior College of Jacksonville and graduated with an Associate of Arts degree December 19, 1975. After completing the police academy at FJC, he was employed by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office as a police officer (Treetop Jones) and served three years as a bailiff in Courtroom #7, of the Duval County Courthouse. He retired after 23 years of dedicated service. He also attended the University of North Florida in 1976-1977. In 1952, Dr. Jones accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of his life and became a born-again, Holy Ghost-filled believer. He joined New Palmer Grove Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He also attended Paxon Revival Center, under the leadership of the late Rev. Jimmie Dobbs. In January 1977, Dr. Mary A. Jones began a prayer service in their home on Chivalry Drive in Jacksonville, Florida. In 1980, they established the We're for Jesus House of Prayer (a debt-free ministry). In 1988, Dr. Robert Jones received an Honorary Doctorate of Sacred Scriptures from United Christian College, Inc., New York, New York. In 2005, Dr. Robert L. Jones took on the helm of leadership of We're for Jesus Ministry (Senior Pastor) and Pastor of the Westside Church (3260 Lenox Avenue). On August 20, 2006, Dr. Jones was ordained an Apostle by Dr. David Rosier, the Pastor of Fellowship Church of Praise, Panama City, Florida. Dr. Jones leaves to celebrate his life and memories: his loving wife, Ms. C. (Cornelia Bryant Jones); sons, Toris (Tonya), Israel (Crystal); daughter, Rev. Tawanna Lenton (Charles); step-daughter, Miranda Williams (Charles), Deland, FL; grandchildren, Dominique, Triss, Mich'kya, Alayja, Israel II, Allison, Trinity Jones, Jaylen and Hayden Williams; great grandson, Triss Nolley; brother, Raleigh Jones (Lillie), Cleveland, OH; sisters, Callie Toliver, Cleveland, OH, Mary Williams (Richard), Fresno, CA, and Clara Sparks Williams, Orlando, FL; sister-in-law, Lucille McCloud; brother-in-law, Charles Bryant (Janet), Daytona Beach, FL; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, members and friends of We're for Jesus House of Prayer. The family will receive friends for a gathering on Friday, May 25, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at We're for Jesus House of Prayer, 5000 North Main Street, Jacksonville, FL 32206; followed by A Victory Celebration being held from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held Saturday, May 26, 2012 at We're for Jesus House of Prayer, 5000 North Main Street at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service.
