AKEL Please Sign the Guestbook @ Jacksonville.com Malvena Elaine Akel, known to her family and those closest to her as Vena, passed from this earth on November 11, 2012 in Alpharetta, GA. Malvena is the beloved daughter of the late Shibly Abraham Akel and the recently departed Elaine Dorothy Alexander Akel Glasscock and is survived by her sister Linda Anne Akel of Daytona Beach, FL and her brother William Shibly Akel of Las Vegas, NV, as well as numerous aunts, cousins and uncles in Alabama, Arkansas, D.C., Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and New York. Malvena was born January 29, 1949 in Jacksonville, FL, graduated from Wolfson High School in Jacksonville in 1967 and Florida State University in 1975 majoring in communications. Her travels included living in Leesburg, FL, Daytona Beach, FL, New Orleans, LA, Kansas City, MO and Atlanta, GA before she settled in Alpharetta, GA in 1993. For the majority of her life, Malvena worked in the telecommunications industry with positions at AT&T, Bell South Mobility and Verizon and since 1989 held a Federal Communications Commission (FCC) license in telephony. Malvena was a caring, kind and selfless soul who was a voracious reader, delighted in teaching reading to those that could not read, supported her local book stores, enjoyed cultural events, politics, deep sea fishing and the natural outdoors. An intelligent and insightful person, Malvena will be greatly missed. A graveside service will be held for Malvena at Greenlawn Funeral Home in Jacksonville, FL on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 11:00 am led by the Rev. Jean Dodd of St. John's Cathedral where Malvena will complete her circle of life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that Malvena's wishes be honored with donations made to her favorites charities: American Red Cross, Boys Club of America, Planned Parenthood and Salvation Army.
