Obituary Condolences

VANZANT Henry Pershing Vanzant, 94, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Jan. 15, 2013 after an extended illness. Born on Sept. 3rd, 1918 in Abbeville, Ga; he shared many stories of his life on the family farm where he was raised. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years: Ethel Campbell Vanzant; parents: Mason Garrett Vanzant and Lydia Sue Gibbs Vanzant; sister, Aubrey Lee Vanzant Livingston and brother, Mason Garrett Vanzant Jr. He was a Purple Heart recipient, serving in the US Army during WWII. He was retired from Fruit Growers Express with 37 years service. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church where he served as an usher for 43 years. He is survived by two daughters: Janet (Dave) Williamson of Orange Park; Pam (Gary) Pappalardo of Jacksonville; one son: Henry Buster (Diane) Vanzant Jr. of Keystone Heights; six grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. The family wishes to thank long time caregiver Ellen Graham and caregiver Alta Adams for their devoted care during his illness. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Trinity Rescue Mission/Women's Center 622 W Union St. Jacksonville, FL 32202. Visitation will be held on Thursday Jan. 17, 2013 at 1:00 pm at Trinity Baptist Church, 800 Hammond Blvd. with funeral service following at 2:00 pm.
