Stewart Elmer MURDOCK Obituary
MURDOCK Stewart Elmer Murdock, age 75, of St. Augustine, Florida passed away peacefully while surrounded by his loving family on October 27, 2013. Born in Suffern, New York on October 3, 1938 to the late Elmer and Edith Murdock, Stewart lived in Jacksonville, Florida from 1941 until he moved to St. Augustine in 1995, residing there until his death. A graduate of the Landon High School Class of 1957, Stewart attended Jacksonville University and The University of Florida. An astute businessman, Stewart co-owned and operated Economy Decorators with his wife Sally for 25 years. Until his retirement in 2006, Stewart was also an integral part of his father s restaurant business, The Pig Bar-B-Q, which was founded in 1955. He purchased two of the restaurants in 1984 and 1986 when his father retired. As The Pig continued to expand under his leadership, Stewart's son Mike joined the business in 1995, his son Chris joined in 2002, and his grandson Mike Jr. joined in 2011, totaling four generations of Murdock men to oversee the Jacksonville institution. Stewart was a Master Mason of Albert J. Russell Lodge #126, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, 32nd degree, and a member of the Morocco Shrine. Stewart was an avid sports fan, and he followed his favorite teams enthusiastically, particularly his beloved Florida Gators. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting with his eldest son, Stewie. Stewart is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Sally Marjenhoff Murdock; three sons, Stewart, Mike (Darly), and Chris (Kelly), all of Jacksonville; six loving grandchildren, Mike Jr. (April), Kristen (Mike), Erika, Chris Jr., Elias, and Elissa; a soon to arrive great grandchild, Ella Marie; brother Kenneth E. Murdock of Gulf Hammock, FL: brother-in law and close friend Frank M. Marjenhoff (Mary Jo), and countless friends who loved him. Stewart will be fondly remembered for his kind and generous heart and as a man who would do anything to help his family and friends. The Murdock family wishes to thank the Community Hospice of Northeast Florida for the care and compassion they showed to Stewart and to his loved ones. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Stewart's name to Community Hospice at 4266 Sunbeam Road Jacksonville, FL 32257 or Morocco Shrine at 3800 St. Johns Bluff Rd. South Jacksonville, FL 32224-2620. A private graveside memorial service is planned for family at Greenlawn Funeral Home and Cemetery. A celebration of Stewart's life will be on a future date at Morocco Shrine. Arrangements under the direction of Greenlawn Funeral Home www.greenlawnjacksonville.com.
