Hubert James Burns Sr. Obituary
BURNS Mr. Hubert James Burns, Sr., 85, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 31, 2013. Mr. Burns was a native of Jacksonville, attended Andrew Jackson High School, Jones Business College & Jacksonville Junior College. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy and retired from CSX Railroad. Mr. Burns was a member of First Baptist Church of Callahan and attended Grace Baptist Church. He was a member of the Traffic Club of Jacksonville where he held numerous positions including President and Treasurer and the Ribault Lions Club. He was an avid sportsman, hunter and fisherman and pitched in the city fast pitch softball league. Mr. Burns was recently preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Lillian Sallette Burns in November and his daughter, Susan Burns Thompson in 1996. He is survived by 5 children: Brenda Burns Harris (Robert), Nancy Burns Turner (Richard), Hubert J. Burns, Jr. (Cynthia), Cynthia Burns Horton (Doug) and Jessica Diane Burns; 2 brothers: Burt Burns (Betty) & Bobby Burns (Delores); 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at Grace Baptist Church, 13290 Ranch Road, with Dr. Lynn Massey and Dr. Lynn Hyatt officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM prior to the service at the church. Peeples Family Funeral Homes is serving the Burns Family.
