Andrew Osborne Hobbs Obituary
HOBBS Mr. Andrew Osborne Hobbs age 78 a resident of Palm Harbor & Auburndale passed away Friday, January 3, 2014 at Winter Haven Hospital due to heart failure. Mr. Hobbs was born March 10, 1935 in Auburndale to George Wesley and Martha Isabelle Belle (Dobson) Hobbs. He graduated from Auburndale High School Class of 1953 and also graduated with a Bachelors & Master s degree in Civil & Coastal Engineering from the University of Florida. He retired from The Corps of Engineers after 30 years of service in Florida, Republic of Panama, Israel & El Salvador. Andrew received the Jim Purpura Engineering Award and the Bill Carlton Award. He was also a United States Army Veteran. Andrew was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, The Professional Engineering Society, A Registered Professional Engineer of the State of Florida and a descendant of the Confederate States of America. He was preceded in death by his parents and his nanny-Ethel Fells. Andrew is survived by; Son: Eric Osborne Hobbs of Missoula, MT. Daughter: Karen Hobbs (Dan) Hogan of Palm Harbor, Fl Brother: Fred Mason (Edwina) Hobbs of Auburndale, Fl. Sister: Martha Joan Mack of Edgewater, Fl. 3 Grandchildren: Melissa Leigh Hogan of Gainesville, FL, Hannah Elizabeth Hogan of Columbia, MD, Harrison Thomas Hogan of Gainesville, FL. Ex-wife & Caregiver: Betty Elizabeth Alverson of Auburndale, FL. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in Mr. Andrew Hobb s name to; The Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches, Inc. Office of President, P.O. Box 2000, Boys Ranch, FL 32064. A graveside service will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 7, 2014 at the Auburndale Cemetery (Bennett St. & Magnolia Ave.).
