Rodney E. Buras Sr.

1947 - 2014

BURAS Rodney E. Buras, Sr. entered into Heaven on September 1, 2014. He was born in New Orleans, LA on December 13, 1947 to his parents, Ignatius Ernest Buras and Rosemary Ray Buras. He served in the United States Navy for 22 years, and was a member of Special Boat Unit 22. Rodney was a Navy Seal during the Vietnam War, and earned a Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts. He was later a Gunner's Mate One. He retired as a Petty Officer First Class E6 from the USS Blakely. He was an American Patriot and beloved father, Paw-paw, brother and uncle who was deeply devoted to his country and family. He is survived by his daughters, Margaret B. Askew (Roby Askew) and Mary-Frances Morse (Daniel Morse); his son, Rodney E. Buras, Jr.; six grandchildren; Shelby, Tra, Max, Stephana, Anthony and Coty; a sister, Mary Missy Comberrel (James Jim Toy, Sr.), his nieces, Dawn Marie, Janell, Carrie, Jamey, a nephew, J.T. and other loving family members and friends. Graveside service with full military honors will be held 10:30am Friday, September 5, 2014 at Jacksonville National Cemetery, 4083 Lannie Rd.
