William Thomas Pledger

1948 - 2015

PLEDGER William Thomas Pledger, passed away after a lingering illness on January 9, 2015 in Jacksonville, Florida at the age of 66. Bill was born in Evansville, Indiana on July 23, 1948 to Roy and Genevieve Pledger. He was predeceased by his father, Roy Pledger. Bill graduated from Reitz Memorial High School in Evansville, Indiana, after which he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served a tour of duty in Vietnam followed by tours as an Embassy Guard in Mali and the Republic of the Congo. Following his discharge from the Marine Corps, he matriculated from Ball State University, earning a degree in Business Administration. He pursued a career in international banking initially, working for Citibank, the Bank of Boston and the Bank of Houston. Upon his move to Florida, he pursued a career in real estate and property management. He eventually joined the Federal Civil Service, working for the Defense Finance and Accounting Center in Columbus, Ohio, retiring in 2011. He is survived by his three daughters, Nicola Spillers (Benjamin) of Atlanta, Georgia; Alexandra De Fabris (Francesco) of Mexico City; and Frances Pledger (Eden Marryshow) of New York City. He is also survived by four grandchildren (Meyer, Chloe, Gaia, and Luca); his mother, Genevieve Pledger; two brothers, Steve Pledger (Marcia) and John Pledger (Toni Marie); two sisters, Mary Kay Hull (Jeffrey) and Gail Pledger (David Hatfield); and numerous nieces and nephews. He was formerly married to Delfina Atkins who remained his best friend.
