Rev. Donald Matthews, 77, died on Sunday, June 1, 2014, at his residence in Wellsboro.
He was the husband of Nancy Hackenberg, who he married Sept. 13, 1980.
Donald was born March 25, 1937, in Sigel the son of the late Carl Leroy and Clara (McGarey) Matthews.
He was a graduate of Sigel High School, Class of 1955. Don graduated from Albright College, Reading, and United Theological Seminary, Dayton, Ohio. He retired in 1985 as a minister. He then worked for several years for the County of Tioga in the Assessment office, retiring in 2000. He was a member of Wellsboro United Methodist Church and a former member of Wellsboro Men's Chorus.
In addition to his wife, Nancy, he is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Vicki and Jeffery Stahlman, Rita and Michael Burns, all of Brookville; granddaughter, Angela Stahlman; sister, SR Janet Newcome, Corpus Christi, Texas; brother, Edward Matthews of Georgia; several nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in by his brother, Harry Lee Matthews in 2013.
Friends and family are invited to Donald's Life Celebration on Saturday, June 7, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., at Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home, "A Life Celebration Home," 139 Main St., Wellsboro. Funeral service will be Sunday, June 8, at 2 p.m., at Wellsboro United Methodist Church, 36 Main St., Wellsboro, with the Rev. Val Rommel and the Rev. Glen Hallead, officiating. Burial will be in Paxtonville Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Donald's name to Samaritan House, 3 Morgan Terrace, Wellsboro, Pa. 16901 or Wellsboro United Methodist Church.
