Etta L. Hilfiger, "her heart was as big as the world," 78, formerly of Tioga, passed away on Thursday, Apr. 10, 2014, at the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital in Wellsboro.
Born Aug. 30, 1935 in Blossburg, she was the daughter of the late Earl C. and Goldia L. (Glover) Houghtaling.
She worked for Galeton Production for 25 years and was a cook for over 20 years. She was a member of the Galeton VFW
Ladies Auxiliary and the Harrison Valley Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
Etta is survived by her sons, Melvin (Patti) Hilfiger, Westfield; Floyd (Lynn) Hilfiger, Tioga; her daughters, Melva Vensel, Agawam, Mass.; Charleen (Lewis) Wilston, Tioga; 14 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; her sisters, Roxie Sharp, Mills; Bonnie (Leon) Dunham, Westfield; Amy Sharp, Westfield; Joyce Hanes, Westfield; Edith Fuller, Mills; Lottie Slaby, Gaines; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Alwin, Raymond and Steven Houghtaling; a sister, Sylvia Chandler and her husband, Keith Hilfiger.
Family received friends at Kenyon Funeral Home, 222 West Main Street, Westfield on Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. A funeral service was held immediately following at 2 p.m. with Pastor Deb Button officiating.
Burial was in Riverview Cemetery, Potter Brook. The family respectfully declines flowers.
