Gertrude Jean Miller Johnson passed peacefully Sunday, March 31, 2013, at the Eiler House, Clarinda, Iowa with her family at her side.
She was born Dec. 8, 1925, in Plymouth, to Sarah and Irving Miller. Trudy married S. Marvin Johnson Jan. 20, 1951, at the First Christian Church in Plymouth. They had four children, Kathy Johnson, Debbie Mellencamp, Celeste Westgaard and Linda Jean who passed March 31, 1957, at the age of three years.
Trudy moved to Clarinda in 1968. She taught English at Clarinda High School from 1968 until her retirement at age 80 in 2006. "Mrs. J" touched many lives, always willing to listen, teach and give encouragement. She was always active in her church. Trudy loved both teaching and her church always putting the Lord first in her life.
She is survived by her daughters, Kathy Johnson, Debbie Mellencamp and husband David, Celeste Westgaard and husband Rolf, all of Clarinda, Iowa. Mimi will be greatly missed by her beloved grandchildren, Cody Westgaard, Brad and Christina Mellencamp, Jeff and Chris Mellencamp and her great grandchildren, Andrew, Jackson, Emma Jean, and Madison.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at the Eiler House for all the love and care they gave "Mama" and to Heartland Hospice for all they did to support Trudy and her family.
