Jean E. Bennett, 90, formerly of Nelson, left this earth in Canandaigua, N.Y., where she has resided since 2003, on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013, with her three daughters at her side.
Born Jan. 22, 1923 in Noxen, Pa., she was the daughter of Lloyd and Kathryn (Kunkle) Pond.
She was married to Paul Bennett for 62 years; he passed away in January 2003.
Jean was a devoted mother, she was a homemaker and worked alongside her husband on their farm. She was an outstanding cook and made wonderful pies. She served on the town of Nelson Election Board for over 30 years. Jean was always caring with her family and deeply loved and enjoyed having them around.
She is survived by her daughters, Kay (Terry) Thurston, Sebring, Fla. and Addison, N.Y.; Paula Bennett, Shortsville, N.Y.; Pat (Thomas) Smith, Pittsford, N.Y.; grandsons, Paul (Deborah) Thurston, Lexington, Ky.; Chris VanSchaick, Shortsville, N.Y.; Craig VanSchaick, Pittsford, N.Y.; seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; brothers, Nile, Blaine, Milford and Hervey Pond; and her sister, Helen Leipold.
Family will receive friends at Kenyon Funeral Home, 214 West Main Street, Elkland, on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. A funeral service will be held immediately following on Saturday at 2 p.m., with Rev. Ellis Grist officiating.
Burial will follow in Nelson Cemetery.
