Robert Laverne (Red) Blackwell completed his life's journey on Friday, Feb. 7, 2014.
He is the sole surviving member of nine children born to Robert Mial and Annie Mae English Blackwell. Robert was born in Morris on the 23rd of January, 1926.
He grew up on a farm on the Horn (Oregon Hill) where his father and grandfather farmed the land. He served in the Army with the AAA Gun Battalion protecting our shores at Fort Meade Md. He retired from the Corning Glass Works in Wellsboro after 23 years of service. A remarkable man, Robert knew the meaning of responsibility, loyalty, dedication and love and exemplified these traits as a caregiver for his daughter and later for his wife.
He is survived by his daughter, Sandy Wilkins (Gary) of Wellsboro; a son, Robert Blackwell of Virginia; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 59 years, Dorothy Davis Blackwell; daughter, Rhonda Lee Blackwell; grandson, Gregory Blackwell; brothers, Howard, Floyd, John, and Willis Blackwell; sisters, Shirley Blackwell, Lela Matthews, Freda Warrner and Vivian Hunter.
Robert's Life Celebration will be from 2 to 3 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 13, at the Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home "A Life Celebration Home," 139 Main St. Wellsboro, with a funeral to follow with Pastor Keith Paris officiating.
