VIRGINIA ALINE PLANT SLYSTER(1923-2012)

Virginia Aline (Plant) Slyster, 89, formerly of Lockport, N.Y., died on Monday, Dec. 24, 2012, in Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro.
Born on Dec. 20, 1923, in Lockport, N.Y., she was the daughter of Herbert Lee and Alice (Seeley) Plant. Virginia was predeceased by her husband, Ralph W. Slyster in 1980.
Prior to her retirement, Virginia was a cosmetologist in Gasport, N.Y. She was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church in Lockport, N.Y. Virginia was an avid knitter and would knit socks for the soldiers during World War II and baby caps and booties for the hospitals in Buffalo, N.Y. She served as a volunteer for many years with the Red Cross and for her church, Grace Episcopal Church in the Thrift Shop and Alter Guild.
Virginia is survived by her daughter, Rita (David) Alexyn of Mansfield; four grandchildren, Renee (Patrick) Lahr, Ralph Slyster, III, Dakota Alexyn, Savannah Alexyn; one great-grandchild, Carter Donald Lahr and one nephew, Lee Plant of Richmond, Va. In addition to her husband, Ralph, she was also predeceased by a son, Ralph William Slyster, Jr. and a sister, Mary Branch.
Friends and family are invited to call on Friday, Dec. 28, from 2 to 3 p.m., at Buckheit Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 637 South Main St., Mansfield. A memorial service will be held immediately following calling hours at the funeral chapel with the Rev. Allen Hulslander officiating.
