Alberta J. "Bert" Avery, 66 of Whitneyville, passed away on Saturday, April 27, 2013, at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre.

She was born Sept. 4, 1946, in Noxen, the daughter of Clyde and Frances Sweezy Scouten. She was raised by her foster parents, Ed and Lucille Banker of Canoe Camp Creek.
Alberta was a graduate of Wellsboro High School. On Sept. 16, 1967, she married Arnold N. Avery, who she shared 45 years of marriage with. Alberta was a loving wife, mother and friend. She was a dairy farmer and a leader in the Whitneyville 4-H Club. She enjoyed dairy farm operations and animals as well as being very active with the Whitneyville Fairgrounds. Alberta was a member of the Whitneyville United Methodist Church.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, Joseph N. Avery(Dawn), of Wellsboro; one daughter, Cora Bolt of Lawrenceville; five grandchildren, Jessica, Derrick, Russel, Curtis, Michael; one sister, Sally Ames (Russell) of Middlebury; three brothers, Harry Scouten (Daisy) of Troy, Emerson Scouten of Wellsboro and Charles Scouten (Norma) of Gallipolis, Ohio. She was preceded in death by a son, Edward Avery.
Friends and family are invited to Alberta's Life Celebration on Wednesday, May 1, from 7 to 9 p.m., and Thursday, May 2, from 10 to 11 a.m., at Tussey- Mosher Funeral, Ltd. "A Life Celebration Home," 139 Main St., Wellsboro. Funeral will follow at 11 a.m., Thursday at the funeral home with Dale Dunmore, officiating. Burial will be in East Charleston Cemetery, Whitneyville. Memorials may be made in Bert's name to Whitneyville Fairgrounds Association, c/o Lori Hamblin, 21 Gee Rd., Middlebury Center, Pa. 16935.
