John G. Whiting, 74, of Mansfield, passed away on Monday, March 11, 2013, at Robert Packer Hospital.
John was the husband of Blanche Munson whom he married on Nov. 9, 1956. John was born May 10, 1938, in Blossburg, the son of the late Delos S. and Grace Bockus Whiting.
He retired as a hiker at Osram and was a former machine operator at American LaFrance. John was a crew chief 20 years in the United States Air Force having served in the Korean Conflict, Vietnam War and the Persian Gulf War. He was a member of Mt. Zion Church. John was a life member of the NRA. In addition, he was an avid shooter and reloader. John enjoyed hunting and loved to read.
Surviving are his wife, Blanche Whiting of Mansfield; son Matthew (Linda) Whiting of Lawrenceville; daughter, Regina (Alan) Hart of Lawrenceville; two sisters, Beverly Mason of Ansonia, Joyce Smith of Mississippi; five grandchildren, Eric Hart, Kristen (William) Post, April (Kent) Parker, Sarah Whiting, Jason Whiting; one great-grandson, Zachary Hart. John was preceded in death by two brothers, Stuart and Richard Whiting and a sister, Darlene Holliday.
Friends and family are invited to John's Life Celebration on Friday, March 15, from 1 to 2 p.m., at Tussey- Mosher Funeral Home, Ltd., "A Life Celebration Home," 139 Main St., Wellsboro. Funeral will follow at 2 p.m., with the Pastor Marvin Reed officiating. Burial will be in Tioga County Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made in John's name to the , 57 North Franklin St., Wilkes- Barre, Pa. 18701 or Mt. Zion Church Building Fund, 7 Mount Zion Road, Wellsboro, Pa 16901.
