Kristin Noelle Sanner Walker, PhD, 44, of Dimock, passed away in Binghamton, N.Y. Tuesday Aug. 13, 2013, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Connellsville, to Barbara Dixon Sanner of Spring Mills, and the late Kenneth Sanner, Kristin devoted her life to literature and higher education. She worked at the Susquehanna County Historical Society and Free Library Association in Montrose before going on to pursue a Master's Degree at the University of Scranton. She earned a Doctorate in English at Binghamton University and taught for several years at the University of Scranton. She joined the faculty in the Department of English and Modern Languages at Mansfield University in 2004. Her love for her students, her departmental colleagues and her teaching were obvious to everyone who knew her.
Kristin was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. She is survived by her husband, William Walker and son, Isaac Sanner Walker. Also surviving are her sister, Shelley Sanner of Washington, D.C.; brothers, Erik Sanner of Spring Mills, Brock Sanner of Pittsfield; grandfather, Charles Dixon, of Black Lick; uncle, Ronald Dixon and wife Carol of Blairsville; uncle, Ronald Sanner and wife Marilyn of Connellsville; cousins and nephew, Jaiden Sanner. Kristin cherished her in-laws, Bentley and Josephine Walker, and family.
Kristin's generosity and devotion were unwavering – from the students she nurtured to the causes she supported. Kristin often thought of others more than herself, which was reflected in her close circle of friends. She was passionate about the arts and loved to travel to her favorite places like Cape May, N.J. and Santa Fe, N.M. She also loved to introduce her son to new places, showing him the architecture, food and culture of other countries. Most important to her, though, was the loving and healthy home she created for her family in the countryside of Montrose.
Kristin received exceptional care from the staff at Broome Oncology in Binghamton, N.Y. The compassion she received and the friendships she developed with her doctors and nurses reinforced Kristin's ability to touch others' lives. Her family is especially grateful to Dr. Madhuri Yalamanchili.
A visitation will be held Friday, Aug. 23, from 6 – 9 p.m. at the Daniel K. Regan Funeral Home in Montrose, followed by a memorial service at the same location on Saturday, Aug. 24 beginning at 11 a.m. To learn more about the services, find directions, or leave an online condolence, please visit www.danielreganfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Susquehanna County Historical Society and Free Library Association, 18 Monument St., Montrose, Pa. 18801.
