Leroy F. Avery, Sr., 72, of Westfield, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Dec. 24, 2012, at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital in Wellsboro.

Born Feb. 17, 1940 in Philadelphia, he is the son of the late Leroy F. and Anna (Ruggeri) Avery.
He married Jacqueline Smith in 1964.
He served in the U. S. Air Force and retired from Kane Magnetics in Galeton where he was the machine shop foreman. Leroy loved to hunt and fish, enjoyed fixing and building things and working around his house. He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Elkland and enjoyed teaching people the Bible.
Leroy is survived by his wife of 48 years, Jacqueline; his children, Joanna (Geoff) Parsons, Knoxville; Leslie (Dave) Jelliff, Westfield; Dawn (Kevin) Simpson, Winslow, N.J.; Debbie (Robert) Rall, Middlebury; Leroy (Philly) Avery, Jr., Knoxville; 8 grandchildren, Howard, Eric, Matthew, Zack, Maria, Kevin, Patrick and Leroy IV; two great-grandchildren, Megan and Jadon; his siblings, Joyce Misner, Blenhiem, N.J.; Thomas Avery, Huntsville, Ala.; Susan Taggert, Knoxville, Tenn.; and Rosemary Batchelor, Pitman, N.J.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, at 3: p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 620 West Main Street, Elkland.
