Luther Richard Walbridge, "Dick," 88, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 4, 2018, after a courageous battle with cancer, at his home on Keuka Lake, Hammondsport, N.Y., surrounded by family.
He was born in Wellsboro Nov. 12, 1929, the youngest son of the late Truman and Charlotte Walbridge (Orr).
He graduated from Wellsboro High School on June 5, 1947, served in the United States Army from 1950-1952, and graduated from Pennsylvania State University on June 9, 1956.
Dick had a long career in food service and eventually was the long-time owner of Orbaker's restaurant in Newark, N.Y. Dick was a member of the Hammondsport Rotary for many years.
Dick will be remembered for his steady, easy going presence and love of family. He was sweet, thoughtful and funny to the end.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lucy Elizabeth (Nixon) of Hammondsport and Sebastian, of Florida; his son, Luther (Luke) Walbridge and daughters Lucy Ann (LuAnn) Rees and Sara Crosby; daughter in-law Paola San Martini; and sons in-law Frank Rees and Thomas Crosby; grandchildren Alex Walbridge, Elizabeth (Betsy) Rees, Leslie Beckbridge, Audrey Walbridge, Veronica Crosby, Matthew Rees, Calvin Crosby, Dominic Walbridge, Jonah Walbridge; great grandson Elliott Beckbridge; and devoted nephew Donald Knowlton.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sisters Mary Walbridge Knowlton, of Wellsboro, and Lucile Walbridge of Hammondsport, N.Y.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Aug. 11, at 3 p.m., on the beach of his Keuka Lake cottage, 11196 East Lake Road, Hammondsport.
