Richard C. "Dick" Johnston, Sr., 89, of 277 Airport Road, Wellsboro, died on Saturday, July 31, 2010.
He was born on May 18, 1921, in Verona, a son of the late Howard Smith and Bernice Beatrice (Wilhelm) Johnston.
Dick was the husband of 62 years of Ada J. Stradley Johnston.
He was formerly employed by the Ford Agency of Wellsboro, as the mechanic shop foreman and was the Fixed Base Operator for 50 years at the Wellsboro Johnston Airport. He loved fishing and hunting but flying was his passion in life. Dick was a World War II veteran serving as a sergeant in the United States Air Force.
Mr. Johnston is survived by his wife, Ada; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Becky Johnston, Jr. of Wellsboro; daughter, Colleen Caputo of Hazleton; two sisters and brother-in-law, Verda Jean and Roland "Doug" Chamberlain, Bette Chilson, both of Wellsboro; four grandchildren; four great-grandsons and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Dick was predeceased by three brothers, Howard, Leslie, Jack; and three sisters, Audrey, June and Anona.
At Dick's request there will be no services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dexter Baptist Church, 1215 Route 660 West, Wellsboro, Pa. 16901. Arrangements are entrusted to the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., Wellsboro.
