Robert D. Smith, 81, of Mansfield, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at Carleton Senior Care Home, Wellsboro.
He was born June 11, 1932, in Mainesburg, a son of Elmer and Anna (Baity) Smith. Robert was married to Dorothy (Sherman) Smith.
He was a self-employed truck driver until his retirement. Robert was a member of the First Baptist Church, Mansfield, served as Trustee and Deacon. Robert was a former member of the Mansfield Lions Club and the Loyal Order of the Moose in Williamsport. He enjoyed camping and bowling.
Robert is survived by his wife, Dorothy; a son, Alan Smith of Roseville; two daughters and a son-in-law, Diane and Ed Vance of Mansfield, Brenda (Tom Greene) Rumsey of Roseville; a daughter-in-law, Cherry Wilson of Mansfield; six grandchildren, Chad Smith, Kenny Vance, Jordan Vance, Danielle Van Gheem, Megan Smith, Derek Smith; two great-grandchildren, Olivia Smith, Bristol Smith; special nieces, Carolyn Gernert of Troy, Joy Rumsey of Daggett, PA; a special nephew, Steve Sherman of Mansfield; several additional nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Marshall Smith in 1988; and two sisters, Shirley Rumsey and Audrey Clark.
Family and friends are invited to call on Monday, Oct. 28, from 5 to 8 p.m., and Tuesday, Oct. 29, from noon to 1 p.m., at Buckheit Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., 637 S. Main St., Mansfield. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m., at the funeral chapel with Rev. Allen Goss and Rev. Steve Case officiating. Burial will be in State Road Cemetery, Mainesburg. Memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Assoc., Eastern PA/Delaware Chapter, 225 City Ave., Suite 104, Bala Cynwyd, Pa. 19904 in Robert's memory.
