Ernest F. Jr. "Inky" Smith, 81 of Second Street, Elkland, passed away at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hospital, Wellsboro, Feb. 19, 2014.

He was born Dec. 12, 1932 in Elkland, the son of Ernest F. and Emily Merrick Smith.
He worked at the Elkland Tannery for many years, was a Korean War veteran, member of the American Legion, Elkland Volunteer Fire Department and graduated from Elkland High School in 1950.
He is survived by brothers and sisters, Charles Smith, Elkland; George H. (Evelyn F.) Smith, Knoxville; Emily M. Bacon, Elkland; Lew (Sue) Smith, Painted Post, N.Y.; Joe (Beverly) Smith, Elkland; Catherine (Jerry) King, Phoenix, Ariz.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis (Frank) Hulbert; a brother-in-law, Otto Bacon; and a sister-in-law, Barbara Smith.
Friends are invited to call at the Kenyon Funeral Home 214 Main Street, Elkland, Sunday from 12 to 2 p.m., where funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. Military honors will be accorded by the Tioga County Honor Guard. Lt. Co. Alan R. Goodrich will officiate.
Burial will be in Howland – Merrick Cemetery, Deerfield Township.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Legion or the Elkland Volunteer Fire Department.
